Palette

The number of colors supported on a computer screen. Palettes are sometimes described by a number of bits in the number of supported colors. For example, an eight-bit palette would support 256 colors.


PDF

Get Adobe Reader

Adobe’s Portable Document Format is a reliable tool for distributing and exchanging documents online. PDF files keep a document’s original formatting, so they look the same to everyone who looks at them.


Perl

Practical Extraction and Report Language is a programming language designed to process text on the Web.


Permalink

A link to a specific entry on a blog, rather than to the blog front page, which can be expected to change daily.

Wyoming

Pixel

From PIX (picture) ELement, the pixel is the smallest addressable unit on a monitor screen. Computer monitor screens are rated by their number of horizontal and vertical pixels. A resolution of 800x600 means that the monitor can display 800 pixels horizontally and 600 pixels vertically.


PHP

PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor is a scripting language which is used to create dynamic Web pages.

POP, POP2, POP3

Post Office Protocol refers to a process which transfers your e-mail messages from a mail server to your computer's hard drive. You can access these email messages by using an e-mail program installed on your computer.


Protocol

An agreed-upon format for transmitting data between two devices. A protocol for transmitting Web pages is HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), for example, and a protocol for transmitting e-mail is Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).
