Trends — Browsers
Browsers are software programs which allow you to view Web sites. Browsers “read” the HTML code and “translate” it into the text, photographs, graphic images, sounds, and everything else on the Web site.
During the 1990s, aggressive competition initiated by Internet Explorer regarding Web standards limited the development of browsers. Netscape emerged from this destructive battle practically unable to compete, and is now owned by AOL.

Browser Trends — Internet Explorer vs Firefox
Most people use Internet Explorer, which comes preinstalled with Windows, and may not even be aware that there are other choices.
Mozilla Firefox is a very good recent addition to our browser options.
At the end of 2005 Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) was being used by approximately 85% of Web users; Firefox had about 9.5%. This represents a significant increase by Firefox, which at the end of 2004 had about 4.6% compared to IE's 90.3%.
Microsoft has announced that it will release a major IE upgrade during 2006, the first in a long time.
